Summer is typically a time for rest and relaxation, but South Korea’s sluggish economy has caused many to put their plans on hold. According to a survey of workers conducted by Global Research from May 31 to June 10 and released on August 4, only 48.5% of respondents said they had summer vacation plans; 20.4% said they will not go, and 31.1% said they had not made a decision yet.

Costs were the deciding factor for most. Among those who either will not go or had yet to make plans, 56.5% cited the cost of vacation as the reason. Other major reasons included not having enough paid vacation days (12.2%) and concern over work piling up during vacation (10.9%).
