According to a report by Security Hero, a cybersecurity consultancy, 53% of all subjects of a deepfake porno were Korean. Based on a study of top ten deepfake porno sites and other channels on popular video sites such as YouTube, eight out of the top ten most common subjects of deepfake porn films were K-pop stars. US subjects were a distant second at 20%, and Japan followed at 10%.

Several prominent K-pop agencies, led by JYP Entertainment, issued statements vowing to take legal action against those who created and distributed materials involving their stars. In a statement from August 30, JYP Entertainment said it was “collecting materials in order to pursue a strong legal response with an expert law firm.”
