For all the talk about the strained relationship between the United States and South Korea during the Trump administration, the overwhelming majority of South Koreans - over 90% - say the alliance is necessary, according to a recent study by the Korea Institute for National Unification 통일연구원.
A strong majority preferred Joe Biden over Donald Trump - 57.4% to 9%. Yet Trump’s summit-led diplomacy continues to be popular among South Koreans: 20.1% said the US-North Korea summit should resume unconditionally, and 52.9% said a summit meeting should occur if there were substantial progress in North Korea’s denuclearization.
