The social distancing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is hurting young Koreans’ dating lives. According to the May 13 report by the Korea Development Institute 한국개발연구원, 78.1% of the unmarried and single adult said they did not meet or were not introduced anyone for the purposes of dating in the previous year; 48.7% said the frequency of meeting or being introduced to someone new has declined in the past year.
For men, the pandemic did not affect the willingness to marry. However, 20.7% of the women said the pandemic made them less inclined to get married, while only 5.9% said they became more willing to be married.
