In a March 4-6 poll by Gallup Korea 한국갤럽, 60% of respondents were favor of the Constitutional Court 헌법재판소’s removal of Yoon Suk-yeol 윤석열 following the impeachment trial; 35% opposed removal. All age groups favored Yoon’s removal, with the sole exception of seniors in their 60s and 70s. Among self-identified liberals, 92% supported Yoon’s removal, as did 71% of moderates and 29% of conservatives.
Should Yoon be removed from office, 52% of respondents said they would favor a liberal candidate in the ensuing snap presidential election, and 37% would favor a conservative one. Democratic Party chairman Lee Jae-myung 이재명 민주당 당대표 led the field of prospective presidential contenders with 35% support. Labor Minister Kim Mun-su 김문수 노동부 장관, favorite of the far-right, came in second at 10%. Former People Power Party chairman Han Dong-hun 한동훈 전 국민의힘 당대표 trailed with 6%; Daegu mayor Hong Jun-pyo 홍준표 대구 시장 came in at 5%.
