On March 12, the Democratic Party chairman 민주당 당대표 and former liberal presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung 이재명 posted on his Facebook page that his parents’ tomb, located in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province 경상북도 봉화군, was vandalized.
Lee posted photos showing several holes drilled into the grave as well as the grave site nearby, with some of the holes holding pointed stones with Chinese characters written on them. Lee also noted that several people appeared to have jumped on top of the grave.
The Democratic Party spokesman said the vandalism was discovered in late February.
