During Donald Trump’s first term in office, the US president eagerly engaged with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un 김정은 on a potential denuclearization deal that fell apart at the last minute. But in the second Trump presidency, experts are skeptical that there will be a reprise.
Twenty-eight of 40 experts polled by the Institute of Far East Studies of Kyungnam University 경남대학교 극동문제 연구소, or 70%, predict that no tangible improvement will occur in the US-North Korea relations during the second Trump presidency. 88% predict that North Korea’s relationship with China will remain the same or grow closer, and 85% make the same prediction as to relations with Russia.
